Our Philosophy of Leadership

Not all successful leadership is biblical leadership. – Tony Morgan

Leadership, and how it is defined, will differ from one organization to another. An organization must …

  • First, determine its core values.
  • Second, determine the leadership qualities that will make those values into reality

While some leadership guidelines are universal (credibility) others are unique to the organization. A used car dealership is not viewing leadership the same way as a church.

At Spout Springs we are always discovering and developing our leadership philosophy. Below are a few of them.

  • Leadership is caught not taught – people must be involved in leadership to learn leadership
  • Whether born or made, all leaders need to be refined – no one ever becomes so good they stop developing
  • God does not call people who are equipped. He equips the people He calls – don’t look for readiness but willingness.
  • In ministry especially, self-appointed leadership is a BIG NO-NO! – self-appointed leaders are more interested in titles than serving
  • The higher the leadership position, the less freedom you possess – greater leadership means greater responsibility
  • Leaders are held to a higher and stricter standard – call it unfair all you want so long as you see the reality
  • Just like discipleship, leadership development is a slow and messy process.
  • We develop with a focus on vision, not need – We avoid “warm body in empty spot” mentality.
  • Failure and mistakes are the seed bed for learning.

What are some of your leadership guidelines?
